The Leader of Epping Forest District Council, Cllr Chris Whitbread and Ward Councillor Holly Whitbread were on site last week to mark the official ground-breaking of the new multi-storey car park in Epping Town Centre.
The delivery of the new car park is part of the town’s redevelopment plans which once completed will enable development of the much anticipated new leisure centre at Bakers Lane.
Simon Rutter, Managing Director of Qualis Commercial comments, “We are pleased to mark the official ground-breaking at Cottis Lane which celebrates the start of the construction phase on this important project. The work is expected to be completed by summer 2023 and during this time we are pleased to have been able to offer temporary parking on our St John’s site to help the local community.”
The multi-storey car park forms the first phase of development at Cottis Lane and will provide 330 spaces including electric vehicle charging. It will be built to a Park Mark Gold standard.
Cllr Chris Whitbread, Leader of Epping Forest District Council says, “This start on site at Cottis Lane marks a milestone in the delivery of our plans to enhance Epping town centre by utilising these brownfield sites. We know the local community is keen to see work start on the new leisure centre at Bakers Lane, so this is one step closer to seeing it come to fruition.”
The Cottis Lane site is part of a five-site redevelopment plan for the town centre which will see the creation of 269 new homes across three residential sites. In addition, Epping Forest District Council with its contractor Places Leisure will deliver a new state of the art leisure centre at Bakers Lane.
