Following much anticipation, the brand new, state-of- the art car park at Cottis Yard in Epping has today opened its doors for the very first time.

With space for 330 vehicles, including electric charging bays, the opening marks a significant milestone in the plans for the future of the town centre.

Simon Rutter, Managing Director at Qualis Commercial, said: “We are thrilled to be welcoming the first customers to the new car park at Cottis Yard, and to be part of the continued success and prosperity of our popular market town.

We look forward to the next phase of construction and the exciting developments in store for the district.”

The new car park has already been awarded a Park Mark Accreditation, a nationally recognised scheme for secure parking which was developed in accordance with Police safety and security requirements. The design includes several of the latest, modern features including CCTV, call points and intercom assistance for users.

As part of Qualis’ commitment to the environment and sustainability, the car park also includes 17 electric vehicle charging bays, powered by Pod Point, which boast either 7 or 22 kw charging.

Following the opening, to help assist customers as they become familiar with the new facility, an attendant with be on-site for up to six hours each day to answer questions or for any guidance needed when using the new machines.

Councillor Sam Kane said: “The modern amenities offered by the car park are another step on the path to achieving a sustainable Epping town centre. Qualis have taken great care to ensure that residents and visitors feel safe and secure when using the new car park and the awarding of a Park Mark Accreditation is a clear testimony of this ambition.”

The car park’s completion paves the way for the construction of the brand-new leisure centre and swimming pool on Bakers Lane. Work is due to begin in the coming months, with this site continuing Epping district’s five-site redevelopment plan for the town centre, which also includes the construction of new homes across three residential sites.

Ahead of the second phase of work at the Cottis Yard Qualis has introduced a landscaped community space which sits alongside the car park. Including an eye-catching symbolic floor design, which echoes the sites industrial past, a selection of seating and even a table tennis, we look forward to seeing the community enjoying using the facilities.

To confirm both the St John’s Road and Bakers Lane car parks will be permanently closed from Tuesday 14th November 2023.
