‘Roary the Lion’ Chosen as Qualis’ Design for Lions on the Loose Trail

We’re delighted to learn that our sponsored lion for St Clare Hospice Lions on the Loose art trail has been matched with our preferred design – ‘Roary the Lion’ by artist, Sarah Emily Porter.

Artists will be painting their lions throughout March and April – one of the most exciting stages of the project which kicks off in the summer.

For eight weeks a pride of majestic lion sculptures will roam the streets, parks and open spaces of Harlow and Epping – each one individually decorated by a talented artist and sponsored by a local business or organisation.

A large standing lion sculpture. Roary's body is painted in a green base with splashes of colour across it. It's mane is blue with lighter blue splashes.

Our ‘Roary the Lion’.

The lion, a symbol of strength, courage, and unity, embodies the values of St Clare Hospice and the spirit of the communities it serves across West Essex and the borders of East Herts.

Sponsorship of the Qualis Property Solutions Lion was through the company’s Community Benefit Fund.

Once the initiative is finished, in October the lion sculptures will be auctioned at the hospice’s Mane Event to raise vital funds for the charity.

“We’re very proud to be sponsoring this innovative fund-raising event,” said Ben Johnson, Managing Director of Qualis Property Solutions.

“This initiative is more than art. It’s about community engagement, creativity, and supporting vital hospice care. We’re proud to play a part in bringing this vibrant project to life and will share updates as the trail takes shape.”

The artist explains:

Roary the Lion takes inspiration from ancient Epping Forest, shaped over time by nature and people. The layered paint marks across his body echo the textures of the forest formed by weather, wildlife and generations of walkers passing through. His colours reflect the woodland floor, shifting light and the small details you notice when you slow down and look around. Roary celebrates Epping and Harlow as places to explore, pause and reconnect, inviting everyone to enjoy and value shared green spaces as part of everyday life.
