A £5k donation from Qualis Community Benefit Fund has enabled Matching Cricket Club to refurbish its kitchen and provide a dedicated bar area so that it can be used for more community and cricket functions.
Work involved reconfiguration of the old kitchen freeing up space for a bar, and new appliances including fridge/freezer, water boiler and hob.
The club has around 300 members spanning all age ranges, including a thriving junior section.
“We are looking forward to putting the new facilities to good use during the coming cricket season,” said Simon Hartnell, MGCC Chairman.
“The new bar will help raise funds for the club so we can continue to run community events including our year-round Thursday Club – a weekly coffee morning with a regular attendance of 25 local people.
“The project will help sustain the club for future years by helping us raise additional funds ensuring our community activities (both cricket and non-cricket) can continue for both young and old.”
To be eligible for funding, applications must demonstrate a benefit to those who rent their homes from Epping Forest District Council.
Applications are particularly welcome that show how an event or project is creating new jobs and training opportunities, supporting health and well-being, regenerating the area and making the Epping Forest District a more sustainable place to live.
