Here is everything you need to new about the new Cottis Yard car park.

When will Cottis Yard be open?

  • The new car park at Cottis Yard opened to the public on 2 November 2023.

How many spaces does the Cottis Yard car park have?

  • The car park has space for 330 vehicles, with a further six spaces for Blue Badge holders to follow at the new Epping Leisure Centre site, once the new leisure centre opens. This will ensure that there is no reduction in the amount of parking available in the town centre following the closure of the Bakers Lane and previous Cottis Lane car parks.

How much does it cost to park at Cottis Yard?

  • There will be no change to the current car park hourly charges, which will fall in line with the current Epping Forest District Council charges.
  • Car park charges will apply from 07:00 to 00:00.

How can I pay for parking at Cottis Yard?

  • It is important to note that the new car park will be cashless. Payment will be available via a variety of different apps or through the contactless machines onsite.

When do I pay for my parking session?

  • If you wish to pay using one of the mobile parking apps, payment must be made on arrival – when using the app for the first time, registration is required. Once registered, it is a straightforward process to add your planned length of stay and proceed to payment.
  • If you prefer to pay by card, at one of our contactless payment machines on site, payment should be made on departure – before leaving the car park please enter your vehicle registration using any of the machines located on the ground floor. Your charge will be automatically calculated based on the length of stay.

Are there charges for disabled parking?

  • There will be no parking charge for blue badge holders, with allocated disabled bays available on the lower levels.
  • All blue badge holders are required to display their badge within the vehicle throughout their stay. Before leaving, to qualify for free parking, please scan your badge at any of the payment machines and enter your registration details.

Are there charges for motorcycle parking?

  • The same charges apply for all motorcycle and vehicle parking. Payment should be made as detailed above.

How many EV spaces does the car park have?

  • Electric vehicle charging bays will be provided on the ground and first floor, these 17 bays will be powered by Pod Point.

Is there parking for larger vehicles?

  • To allow for taller vehicles, the ground floor has been designed with a clear access height of 2.4 metres.

Will there be any assistance following the opening of the car park?

  • Following the opening, for the first two weeks, an attendant will be available onsite for up to six hours per day. They will be on hand to offer assistance with the new machines and to answer your questions to ensure that all visitors have a smooth and straightforward experience.

When will the car parks on Bakers Lane and St John’s Road close?

  • There will be a short overlap period when the car park on Bakers Lane, and the temporary car park on St John’s Road, will remain open. Both car parks will be closed from 14 November.

Will you be offering free Christmas parking?

  • Located just next to the thriving High Street, Cottis Yard offers a smart, safe and convenient place to park while you do your Christmas shopping. That’s why we are pleased to confirm that we will be offering free weekend parking at Cottis Yard during December.
